According to VASEP, in the first 9 months of 2011, Vietnam seafood exports gained impressive achievements with the total seafood export value of US$4.3 billion, up 23.9 percent over that of the same period last year. Based on good signs of markets and price, Vietnam seafood exports in 2011 is expected to exceed the target.
In the early months of 2011, despite obstacles from foreign importers, unstable supply of raw material, pangasius exports of Vietnam gained good results. Typically, Dong Thap province (a largest pangasius farming and processing province of Vietnam) has completed the full year target of pangasius exports only in the first 9 months. Mr. Pham Thien Nghia, Director of Dong Thap Department of Industry and Trade said, so far this year, pangasius export of the province reached US$332 million, exceed the target of 2011 (US$320 million).
In term of shrimp exports, Ca Mau is the leading province. So far, 36 seafood processing plants in Ca Mau are operating at full capacity to meet the orders in Christmas and New Year. In Jan-Sept 2011, total seafood export value of Ca Mau reached over US$900 million, up US$60 million compared to the target, according to Ca Mau Department of Agriculture and Rural Development.
According to DARD of Soc Trang, Bac Lieu, Kien Giang provinces, in 2011, local seafood export rose remarkably thanks to high import price of shrimp in the markets.
According to VASEP, in the first 9 months of 2011, Vietnam seafood exports gained impressive achievements with the total seafood export value of US$4.3 billion, in which shrimp exports reached US$1.6 billion and pangasius export reached US$1.31 billion, up 29 percent over that of the same period last year. EU is the key importer of Vietnam pangasius, accounting for 30 percent of market share of Vietnam pangasius, up 6 percent over that of the same period last year (US$397.8 million).
In Jan-Sept 2011, tuna exports of Vietnam reported US$284.7 million, up 28.9 percent on that of the same period last year. Mollusk exports of Vietnam reported significant growth. Mollusk exports in Jan - September 2011 reached US$420.1 million, up 23.9 percent over that of the same period last year.
Based on these above achievements, MARD predicts that seafood exports of Vietnam in 2011 will gain nearly US$6 billion, exceeding the target of US$5.75 billion expected in the early 2011.
